Tip for Batch Numbers When Recreating WEAR or Polling Datasets.


First before recreating WEAR or Polling Datasets, ALWAYS back up the Bin and Data folders on ALL locations. With Replication, a backup isn’t complete if it hasn’t been done at the same time at all locations. By that I don’t mean that it must be done at the exact second, but everyone must be logged out of all datasets, a couple updates must be done by S5Poll.exe to make sure that all information has synchronized, and a backup is done before anyone logs back into System Five. 


MAIN WEAR SERVER (Head Office)


 Open S5Poll on the main location’s server and check the batch numbers of Head Office and the Remote datasets. Click on Manage Servers…  

 



Double Click on the Head Office Active Server or click once to highlight it and click the edit button. This will always be ID 1. 




 

Take note of the Next Batch Number (write it down). In my demo it is a low number 8. Most datasets you will encounter would be in the hundreds.

 Next click on the Remote Server at the bottom of the screen and click the edit button. 

 



 Now Take note of the Batch Number in this screen (write it down). Again, In my demo it’s a low number, 6, but in most datasets you will encounter the batch numbers would be in the hundreds. 

Click OK to get out of this screen 



 

Do this again for all Remote Servers.


Now that we know what all the batch numbers are, we want to choose a number that is higher than the largest number you just wrote down. This is so we can assign new batch numbers that are higher than any previously transmitted batch number.

In my case I only had two numbers, 6 and 8, so I could set all the batch numbers to 10.

In reality, if this was a WEAR installation that had been in use for some time, they would have much higher batch numbers. Let’s say. For Instance, Main=359, Remote1=222 and Remote2=199.

We want to choose a number that is higher than all 3 locations, and a nice round number to keep it simple. I would choose 400 which is higher than all three numbers I wrote down and is a nice number to work with.

Now, since we are starting off with nice new remote datasets, we can choose our starting batch numbers and we will want to reset the counters to batch numbers that haven’t been used before.

We know now that if we use 400, it is a higher number than any previous batch, so in my test dataset, we are going to set ALL batch counters to 400. This is great because we have chosen a number that we know is higher than any previous batch, and we don’t need to remember what the batch counters were at before. Also we only have one number to remember which will eliminate any confusion about what batch numbers we need to enter for the Server and remote configurations.


So now we can go ahead and recreate the datasets. 




WEAR REMOTES



After re-creating the data sets you will need to open S5Poll on each WEAR computer to change the batch numbers. Again, in my demo we will be using 400, but you must determine what your starting batch number will be based on the numbers from the customer’s data sets. Open S5Poll.exe and click on Manage Servers. 

 



Double Click on the New Remote Server or click once to highlight it and click the edit button. The name of the server may be different. Sometimes it is the location name or store name, but the first remote’s ID will always be 2. 

 



Click on the Next Batch Number field and change it to 400. Click in another field, and you will get a popup asking if you want to change the batch number. Click Yes. 

 



Now click on Server ID 1 in the Remote Server list and click Edit. 

 



Click on the Next Batch Number field and change it to 400. Click in another field, and you will get a popup asking if you want to change the batch number. Click Yes. And click OK to Exit the popup. 

 



Click OK again to exit the Active Server Settings. 

 




REMEMBER: This process MUST be done in S5Poll on all WEAR Remotes.
