This is the recommended configuration for these scanners to work with System Five. 
This method doesn't require the STX Prefix (Ctrl+B) to be programmed into the scanner.
To do this we used the following process:
 
Installation Enabling USB CDC Host mode.
Configure your scanner to communicate in USB CDC Host mode by scanning the barcode below: USB CDC Host Mode or from page 8-6 of the programming manual. The product manual for the LI4278 can be downloaded from the following link:

If the Windows 10 native CDC driver if it is not automatically installed after scanning the USB CDC Host Mode configuration barcode, use the following procedure: 
1. In Device Manager, right-click on the newly detected CDC device and select 'Update Driver Software...' 
2. Select 'Browse my computer for driver software' and then choose 'Let me pick from a list of available drivers on my computer'
3. From the list of Common hardware types', select 'Ports (COM & LPT)' and click 'Next' 
4. If checked, uncheck the box 'Show compatible hardware' 
5. From the 'Manufacturer' list, select 'Microsoft'. 
6. From the adjacent 'model' list, select 'USB Serial Device' and click 'Next' 
7. After the driver is installed, the assigned COM port will be shown in the device name in the device manager. 
In our test it assigned COM3 but it may be different on another PC.
 
Next we need to open System Five, Turn on the POS Device Manager for that terminal.

Restart System Five and check that the POS Device Manager is running in the task bar.

Open the POS Device Manager.

Click on the Barcode Scanner tab, and set the COM Port there to the one you noted from step 7 above.
(In our case it was COM 3).


Once it is set you can test by opening an invoice in System Five and scan several barcodes. the parts should appear very quickly on the invoice screen.
